Peer review

I had a chance to review the Interactive Learning Resource draft made by learning pod 4. In terms of structure, it’s easy to follow and understand. The draft on web development is well-structured, shows a clear flow from introduction to in-depth subtopics. The alignment between content, objectives, and assessments is evident, especially with the detailed breakdown for each subtopic. The draft shows its interactivity, offering a range of interactive activities from matching exercises to group projects. It also did a good job on inclusivity that they thought about different types of learners and added features like a dark screen mode. A little suggestion that I can think about is the accessibility for technology use, I think it would be better if there is consideration about ensuring technological accessibility for all learners, or there can be a substitute way for learners who have accessibility or internet issues. Overall, it is a well-designed interactive learning resource. Good job!

In the process of reading this material, I disagree with the author’s viewpoint on learning theories . The article overemphasizes the sources of learning theories research and experimental evidence teaching strategies and techniques. Although learning theory and research are important components of teaching, they are closely related to instructional design. However, we should understand that from the perspective of instructional design, behaviorism based on learning theory is more important. Only by actively taking action based on theory can we gain richer experience and create more value.

In the process of learning, we must truly understand the value and significance of learning, and overcome various difficulties and challenges encountered in learning based on learning theories. In one of my teaching exercises, I encountered a very mischievous student who really disliked things related to learning. In order to help this child overcome his learning challenges, I mainly adopted a behaviorism teaching strategy at that time. Firstly, I conducted a comprehensive observation of this student and carefully analyzed his behavior, adopting reasonable methods for measurement. Secondly, through my testing, I found that this student has more difficulty concentrating during class than other students, and it is difficult to concentrate during the learning process. Thirdly, based on the characteristics of this student, I further evaluated where my teaching should start. At this point, I think I should teach the student relevant knowledge that meets their standards, help them set learning goals and tasks, and build a good foundation for learning. Fourthly, in the face of more complex behaviors generated by students during the learning process, I will further adjust my teaching order to help students gradually understand the problem. Firstly, I will set up a reward mechanism to give students some positive feedback, increase their confidence in learning, and overcome the challenges in learning.

In this teaching method selection, I mainly chose two methods: inquiry-based learning and cooperative learning. These two teaching methods are used in many environments. These two methods are also the most important methods used to solve problems in my teaching process, especially inquiry-based learning.

Inquiry-based learning is a learning approach based on students’ autonomy, discovery, and exploration. Traditional classroom teaching focuses on teachers imparting knowledge points and problem-solving methods, while exploratory learning strives to allow students to discover, analyze, and solve problems on their own, advocating for independent learning and cultivating innovative thinking. In the process of exploratory learning, teachers will provide students with professiona l learning resources and tools, encouraging them to actively engage in collaborative exploration. Just like in this theme design, the main theme we explored during the learning process is the three forms of matter. In the process of exploration, students need to personally understand matter, explore the essence and classification of matter. In my study pods, other people also chose this teaching method and gained a lot of experience through exploration. They see the importance of inquiry-based learning for student growth and applied the learning design blueprint to teaching activities.

Cooperative learning refers to mutual aid learning with clear division of responsibilities among students, with the help and guidance of teachers, in order to complete common tasks. Cooperative learning often involves both collective and personal interests, and students gain personal growth through completing common tasks. Just like in this theme design, we designed a division of labor, hoping that students can discover the mysteries of material transformation through joint cooperation. When we were creating the blueprint for learning and design, we also had a very clear division of labor and cooperation, dividing the specific content of the slides and working together to plan and discuss and complete all tasks.

In this interactive learning resource design, we choose the theme of the state of matter, and explore the three states of solid, liquid, and gas of matter, the transitions between the three states, and the most common forms of these three states. In the design process, the interactive learning resources we use mainly meet the needs of all learners to acquire knowledge, improve the speed and efficiency of learners’ knowledge acquisition, and help them quickly understand the relevant basic knowledge about the state of matter. The use of interactive learning resources will further help learners obtain better training, meet their cognitive needs during the learning process, and help them establish good learning goals.

In the interactive learning resources, we have also designed a plan for unexpected practice prevention by adjusting the learning activities in the plan to meet the needs of learners. For example, if there is an epidemic disease similar to the COVID-19, we will train learners to focus on online learning. At the same time, due to the difference in effectiveness between online and offline teaching, we will further adjust our teaching objectives. At that time, the specific difficulty level of teaching will be adjusted according to the specific situation. I will further reduce the difficulty of the knowledge points involved in the course and present them online in a more user-friendly manner. At the same time, during the online teaching process, I will also make more full use of online resources to make learners feel the changes in materials. I will also find a laboratory platform similar to physics experiments online, where online learners will personally conduct experimental operations instead of offline experimental demonstrations. I hope to use online teaching resources to help students consolidate their knowledge during online experiments.

Overall, I will do my best to eliminate learning barriers for learners, meet their learning requirements, and help them achieve the learning goals.

Choosing appropriate media technologies can provide learners with the most timely information and feedback in this field, helping them maximize the utilization of learning related resources. The interaction between learners and learning materials can also further enhance the effectiveness of teaching.

For this interactive learning design, I have selected suitable videos on the video website to use with learners. In the video, the characters in the video will interact with offline learners, hoping that they can engage in online interaction through comments and other means. Firstly, when facing a video, learners need to further reflect on the issues involved in the video by taking notes and doing activities and make their own reactions to them. Learners also need to delve deeper into how this topic arose and how it was carried out based on the prompts provided in the video. Secondly, I highly recommend that learners engage in offline self review after watching this video. Finding a way to review can be done through hands-on experiments offline. During the process of conducting physics experiments, students can use the laboratory mini program website to conduct some virtual experiments. This method is relatively convenient, as long as you have the network and electronic devices to operate. This can also help students further accumulate knowledge related to physics and improve their practical abilities. Thirdly, in order to improve the effectiveness of teaching, I will also set up reasonable activity feedback links. I will ask students to submit experimental reports online to describe their experiences in conducting online experiments. I will judge their specific gains and problems encountered during the activity process based on the content in the report. And I will develop the next teaching plan and interactive learning design method based on the feedback received from the activities. Fourthly, this activity will increase my workload in instructional design, but I believe it is very valuable and can help learners better acquire knowledge.

If this activity is executed smoothly, it will also help more students join the learning activity in the future.

Welcome and Introduction

Before proceeding with this first blog post, we expect you to consider your privacy preferences carefully and that you have considered the following options:

  1. Do you want to be online vs. offline?
  2. Do you want to use your name (or part thereof) vs. a pseudonym (e.g., West Coast Teacher)?
  3. Do you want to have your blog public vs. private? (Note, you can set individual blog posts private or password protected or have an entire blog set to private)
